Jerusalem, 12 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — An umbrella agreement was signed between the Ministry of Construction and Housing, the Ministry of Finance, and the Sakhnin Municipality to promote a comprehensive development process in the city, which includes the addition of approximately 4,660 new housing units on state land, alongside commercial and employment areas.

Sakhnin is a city in the Galilee located near Acre.

The umbrella agreement is expected to significantly increase the city’s population, which currently numbers about 34,000 residents, and lead to its growth to more than 55,000 residents. The agreement constitutes a strategic move to develop Sakhnin, expand the housing supply and strengthen local authorities, while connecting new neighborhoods to upgrade the old fabric.

As part of the agreement, designated budgets totaling approximately 1.5 billion Shekels ($480 million) will be allocated to carry out development work in the city, of which approximately 1.2 billion Shekels ($390 million) will be allocated to the development of the new complexes by the Ministry of Construction and Housing.

In addition, approximately 220 million Shekels ($71 million) will be allocated to super infrastructure, including upgrading existing infrastructure that provides a solution for the new neighborhoods, approximately 230 million Shekels ($72 million) to establish public institutions in the new neighborhoods and upgrade institutions in the older neighborhoods, and approximately 75 million Shekels ($24 million) to upgrade infrastructure throughout the older city as part of the “Old versus New” initiative.
