The Tax Authority has completed a large-scale VAT operation, which focused on identifying taxpayers and conducting audits in the real estate sector. The operation was carried out by VAT offices across the country, in cooperation with the National Enforcement and Collection Unit (Otzma Le’Hitgalut) and the Israel Police. During the operation, approximately NIS 209 million was collected and about 2,000 taxpayers were handled. Alongside enforcement and collection activities, targeted audits were conducted on real estate transactions that were not legally reported. In this framework, 43 businesses were audited, for whom assessment proceedings have begun, and in some cases, book disqualification and indictments are expected, depending on the findings.

The enforcement activity in the field yielded immediate results. For example, a VAT team that arrived at a software development company in Ra’anana, which had filed VAT reports without payment totaling approximately NIS 654,000, led to the settlement of the entire debt in a short time. Upon summoning the company owner for an investigation, the latter acted immediately: he liquidated a foreign currency fund worth approximately $210,000 and made a bank transfer to cover the debt in full.

In another case, a VAT team that arrived at the vehicle lot of a car dealer who had accumulated debts of approximately NIS 116,000 for unpaid reports, clarified that in the absence of debt settlement, enforcement measures would be taken, including towing vehicles through the Otzma Le’Hitgalut. Following this, the debtor chose to settle his debt on the spot and transferred a cash check for NIS 56,000, along with a commitment to complete the balance.

In a nighttime operation in Kafr Qasim, forces from the Enforcement and Collection Unit (Otzma Le’Hitgalut) raided the assets of a taxpayer who had accumulated debts totaling approximately NIS 4 million. As part of the operation, two concrete mixers belonging to him were seized.

the Tax Authority will continue consistent and determined enforcement throughout the country, to ensure true tax collection and maintain equality in the burden among all taxpayers.
