Jerusalem, 9 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — In May 2026, vehicles (private) imports totaled 22,155 compared to 24,294 in May 2025, a decrease of 8.8%. The decrease in the import rate is explained by higher-than-average imports in May 2025, after low imports since the beginning of the year. Commercial vehicle imports totaled 1,577 vehicles compared to 1,634 in May 2025, a decrease of 3.5%. This is according to the data released by the Israel Tax Authority.

In the period January – May 2026, vehicle imports amounted to 116,272 vehicles compared to 84,049 vehicles in the same period last year, an increase of 38.3%. The increase is explained on the one hand by relatively high imports in the months of January – March 2026 following a low dollar exchange rate.

On the other hand, the low imports in January – May 2025 are explained by the massive advance of vehicle imports in December 2024, on the eve of an Increase in the purchase tax on electric vehicles and an update of the green taxation formula and green taxation outline in January 2025.

The Tax Authority noted that in December 2025, vehicle imports were also advanced on the eve of an increase in the purchase tax on electric vehicles, but in small volumes.
