Seven arrested for defrauding the Israeli government of wartime benefits by faking evacuation claims and bribing an official to alter residential addresses for.
Jerusalem, 9 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Seven people were detained by the Police on suspicion of defrauding the Government by receiving war grant payments for evacuating from the north of the country due to security concerns, despite never having lived in the north.
According to the suspicion, several of the suspects conspired and bribed an employee at the Population and Immigration Authority, in exchange for the false alteration of their residential addresses to the north of the country while creating a false impression that they had been evacuated from settlements evacuated along the northern border during the war period. Through this false impression, the suspects acted to obtain benefits and undue assistance funds as part of the grant paid by the National Insurance Institute.
