Israeli Foreign Minister Gidon Sa'ar visited Hargeisa, Somaliland, meeting President Abdillahi and senior officials to vigorously advance relations.

Foreign Minister Gidon Sa’ar held his first official diplomatic visit today to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, at the invitation of President Abdirahman Mohamud Abdillahi.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Sa’ar met with President Abdillahi and senior government officials at the official presidential palace in Hargeisa.

The President of Somaliland and Foreign Minister Sa’ar issued statements.
Foreign Minister Gidon Sa’ar: “We are determined to vigorously advance relations between Israel and Somaliland. Today we held significant discussions with the President and his senior officials concerning the entirety of our relations.
The mutual recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries are not against anyone. Our shared goal is to advance the welfare of both peoples and countries.

In Hargeisa, I clarified: Only Israel will determine for itself whom it recognizes and with whom to maintain diplomatic relations.
The President of Somaliland stated that he accepts Prime Minister Netanyahu’s invitation and will visit Israel officially.”
