Strengthening the Israel-Argentina strategic and economic alliance: FM Sa’ar meets with Argentine Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein

The two decided to establish working groups to further strengthen economic relations and the strategic alliance between the countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar met with Argentine Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein in Jerusalem. The two held a private meeting before holding an extended meeting with the working groups from both sides.

During the meeting, FM Sa’ar expressed his appreciation for Argentina’s courageous friendship with Israel under the leadership of President Javier Milei, as well as for the minister’s warm ties to Israel.

The two discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations between the countries in advance of President Milei’s expected visit in March and FM Sa’ar’s planned visit to Argentina.

FM Sa’ar updated his counterpart on the details of the hostage release outline and made it clear that Israel is committed to all the goals of the war, including the release of all its hostages. FM Sa’ar also said that Israel cannot end the war while Hamas controls Gaza, which would cause chronic regional instability and would, of course, also endanger the security of Israel and its citizens.

Foreign Minister Werthein reviewed the significant economic progress experienced by Argentina across various parameters since the election of President Milei, attributing this improvement to the president’s implementation of bold economic measures and reforms.

The two foreign ministers agreed to form working groups aimed at enhancing economic relations and the strategic alliance between their respective countries. The Israeli team will be headed by the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adv. Eden Bar-Tal. Additionally, it was established that FM Sa’ar would undertake a reciprocal visit to Argentina in the near future.

FM Sa’ar: “Argentina is a true friend, President Milei is a true friend and you are a true friend. We will collaborate for the mutual success of our countries. Argentina and Israel have numerous opportunities, and together we will strive to advance them.”
