1,249 Israeli Social Workers Actively Serving Public During Iran Conflict

1,249 Israeli social workers are actively serving in the emergency system amidst the "Roaring Lion" war against Iran, with 244 new recruits in the past month.

Jerusalem, 17 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — On the occasion of Workers’ and Social Workers’ Day, which falls today (March 17), Israel’s Ministry of Welfare and Social Security presented the scope of the welfare system’s activities during the “Roaring Lion” war against Iran.

Currently, 1,249 social workers are working in the emergency system across the country, with 244 additional workers recruited in the last month alone. Of those recruited, 180 workers (approximately 73%) were employed in direct community services and 64 workers (approximately 27%) in headquarters and professional assistance positions. In addition, 93 external workers have joined to assist local authorities and welfare units.

The bulk of the recruitment is taking place in areas where social needs have increased during the emergency. At the same time, 38 additional social workers are working in the framework of emergency preparedness and assistance.
