Jerusalem, 8 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Health reported that a person from the central region who was diagnosed with West Nile fever and mosquitoes captured near Eilat by the Ministry of Environmental Protection were diagnosed in the Ministry of Health laboratories as infected with the West Nile fever virus. The ministry instructed the Israeli authorities to expand the monitoring and pest control system.
As every year, from the beginning of June to the end of November, the frequency of finding mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus increases.
“It appears that this year, probably due to changes in the weather, they appeared earlier,” said the Ministry of Health. “It should be noted that the placement of traps throughout the country is a sampling, so even if no infected mosquitoes were caught in a particular area, this does not guarantee that the area is free of mosquitoes carrying the virus.”
