Jerusalem, 3 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Wednesday afternoon two people (in their 60s and 80s, residents of Jerusalem and central Israel) were arrested on suspicion of setting fire to garbage bins in Jerusalem’s Rehavia neighborhood Wednesday morning. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private home is located in Rehavia. Other fires were set in Givat Ram is where the Knesset and many government offices are located.
The fires were set as part of protests against the government, demanding the return of Israelis held hostage in Gaza.
While the fires caused no injuries, a vehicle parked there was severely damaged and heavy damage was caused to the bins.
Police forces were called to the scene alongside emergency and rescue personnel who extinguished the fires, thereby preventing harm and risk to the public, road users and residents of the area.
