Three Fishermen Detained for Illegal Drone Fishing in Northern Israel Reserve
Three fishermen detained in northern Israel reserve for illegal drone fishing, endangering protected marine life. Case opened against them.
Jerusalem, 30 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Nature and Parks Authority inspectors detained three fishermen Wednesday in the Rosh Hanikra-Achziv Sea Nature Reserve for using a drone to fish, a method prohibited in protected areas. Marine inspector Ziv Nader said the men used rods with rollers and a drone to catch Atlantic sardines, unaware they were in a nature reserve.
Fishing with drones is permitted only outside reserves under a sport fishing license. The technique can endanger sharks, turtles, and other marine life.
The fishermen expressed regret, and a case has been opened against them for harming protected natural values.
