Jerusalem, 14 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Firearms Licensing Division of Israel’s Ministry of National Security announced the implementation of a new law that allows a social worker will be able to report to a licensing officer the danger posed by an applicant for a firearms license, and not only the danger posed by a firearm holder. The social worker will also be able to report a family member of a patient who has applied or holds a license.

There is also a change that will make it easier for former soldiers to obtain firearms licenses. Now, a license applicant who did not complete his military service due to an injury in operational activity , or served as a combatant (according to the IDF definition) and ended his military service for medical reasons, and therefore could not meet the threshold requirements regarding age and military service, will be able to submit an application to carry private and organizational firearms.
