Jerusalem, 5 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Galilee Development Company reports severe drought damage to field crops in the Hula Valley, with over 55% of planned summer sowing canceled. The 2024/25 winter was among Israel’s driest, with only 50% of average rainfall recorded. Farmers were forced to irrigate through winter, increasing costs by 40%. An extreme cold wave during Storm Coral further devastated 35% of the wheat crop.
Galileo Golan company warns that without urgent government action, including investment in agricultural R&D and water solutions, food production will be at risk amid growing climate challenges and rising global demand.
