Jerusalem, 25 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Authority, ahead of next week’s Shavuot holiday, reported that the Israeli supermarket chain that offers the lowest total price for the basket of brand name goods the average family buys for the holiday is Rami Levy, at 259.5 Shekels ($72) per basket.

The most expensive supermarket chain in Israel is Ma’ayan 2000, which charges 312.3 Shekels ($86.6) for the basket of goods.

Examining a basket of leading brands versus alternative brands in the same chain – the savings rates obtained from switching from a basket of leading brands to an alternative basket within each chain . Range from 17% (Rami Levy) to 37% (Shufersal). This means that even if the consumer is in his preferred chain, he can reduce his shopping basket by tens of percent.

The basket comparison includes sampling dozens of prices of leading consumer products for Shavuot in 10 large retail chains in Israel, particularly chains with a nationwide distribution that contained all of the leading brands tested. At the same time, a substitute basket was sampled consisting of substitute products, identical or very similar in their characteristics, whose price is cheaper than the leading branded products.
