Jerusalem, 9 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Welfare has completed preparations for the absorption (aiding he returnees with various issues caused by their captivity) of the hostages who are expected to return home soon after two years being held hostage in Gaza by Hamas.
Professionals are preparing for the fact that the returnees this time may be in an even more difficult physical and mental state than the abductees who have returned so far, and dealing with them is expected to be long-term and complex.
Accordingly, the trauma-oriented absorption plan that has been formulated is based on accumulated professional experience, on the knowledge acquired from abductees who have returned so far, and on international insights from similar cases around the world.
The absorption process is supposed to span five stages: preliminary preparation prior to absorption, the first 24 hours, the period of stay in the hospital, a transition phase lasting up to a month, and long-term support.
