Jerusalem, 28 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The government approved the continued advancement of the construction of the advanced facility for recovering energy from waste in Atarot, in northern Jerusalem, where there already is a waste treatment center.
The decision came as part of the “garbage to gold” revolution led by Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection. The decision includes examining a change in the route of the security fence and earmarking funding from the Cleanliness Maintenance Fund to enable the establishment of national infrastructure in the capital, which will reduce waste landfilling and strengthen the city’s resilience.
The planned facility will strategically reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, while maximizing the potential of waste as a resource for energy production, and significantly reducing the volume of waste transported to landfill sites in the south.
