Jerusalem, 7 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during Sunday’s weekly government meeting that israeli forces killed Mahmoud Afana, a Hamas gunman who on October 7 phoned his parents from a kibbutz near Gaza and boasted of murdering 10 Israelis. Israel later called Afana’s family to inform them of his death, Netanyahu said.
Palestinian media reported Afana was killed in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza. A video of Afana calling his parents to brag about the murder was widely seen on social media in the aftermath of the October 7 attack.
Netanyahu also said Israeli troops are advancing in Gaza City, dismantling Hamas positions, and creating additional humanitarian zones to facilitate the evacuation of civilians. He added that around 100,000 residents have left Gaza City, despite Hamas firing on Palestinians to prevent them from fleeing.
