Mosquitoes in Eilat carry West Nile Virus, Ministry of Health confirms. Authorities expand monitoring and control efforts.

Jerusalem, 21 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — mosquitoes captured in Eilat by the Ministry of Environmental Protection were diagnosed in the Ministry of Health laboratories as infected with the West Nile fever virus.

In addition, the Ministry of Health reports one patient with West Nile fever from central Israel since the beginning of the year. The Ministry of Environmental Protection has instructed local authorities in Israel – with an emphasis on the authority where infected mosquitoes were found and the authorities where the Ministry of Health reported human cases of West Nile fever – to further expand the monitoring and control system.
