Ministry of Health Buys 485,000 Flu Vaccine Doses for Israel
Israel's Ministry of Health expands flu preparedness, purchasing 485,000 vaccine doses and launching a nationwide campaign for nursing homes to combat rising.
The Ministry of Health has purchased approximately 485,000 additional doses of the influenza vaccine, which arrived at Ben Gurion Airport in recent days. Distribution of thousands of vaccine doses to health maintenance organizations (HMOs) across the country began this morning.
In addition, in light of the rise in influenza cases and to protect at-risk populations, the Ministry of Health is launching a dedicated protective campaign in nursing homes and geriatric facilities nationwide.
As part of the campaign, protective kits were distributed to 255 nursing homes. The kits include influenza vaccines, masks, Tamiflu, and tests for diagnosing influenza, with the goal of reducing severe illness and preventing widespread outbreaks among vulnerable populations.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that influenza morbidity is on the rise and recommends that the general public get vaccinated as soon as possible. Although the influenza vaccine does not completely prevent infection, it significantly reduces the risk of severe illness and complications.
The vaccine is available free of charge through HMOs.
In accordance with the precautionary principle, the Ministry of Health recommends that at-risk populations consider wearing masks in enclosed spaces and at gatherings. In addition, mask use is recommended for medical staff and visitors in nursing homes and geriatric facilities to protect residents and staff.
