Measles Outbreak Kills Six Infants, Sparks Knesset Health Committee Debate
Jerusalem, 30 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli health officials warned Tuesday during a Knesset Health Committee meeting of a severe measles outbreak that has so far claimed six lives, all unvaccinated infants.
The Health Ministry told lawmakers of roughly 1,700 confirmed cases over six months, with 437 hospitalizations, including 39 in intensive care. Committee Chairman MK Yoni Meshriki condemned anti-vaccination incitement, calling it “effectively killing children.” High-risk groups include infants under one, malnourished children, immunocompromised individuals, and pregnant women.
Outbreaks are concentrated in Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Bnei Brak, Harish, and other cities. Authorities are expanding vaccine accessibility, including mobile clinics, and have administered tens of thousands of doses.
Officials stressed that early vaccinations are the key to preventing more deaths.
