Major Tel Aviv Hospital Goes Green

Jerusalem, 7 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv is currently joining the strategic move led by the Natural Gas Authority in the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, which aims to transition hospitals in Israel to cleaner and more economical energy consumption. As part of this, Ichilov Hospital is completing work on connecting to the natural gas network in the region and is also the only hospital in Israel to have established a trigeneration station – an advanced and efficient solution that allows for self-production of energy in the amount of 5 megawatts.

Ichilov is the only hospital in Israel to have established a trigeneration plant – a facility that combines electricity production with the use of thermal energy from the production process for cooling and heating processes. This is an advanced and efficient solution that allows for self-generation of energy to the extent of 5 megawatts.

To date, the hospital has consumed approximately 4,500 tons of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) per year. As part of the move, most of the LPG consumption was converted to natural gas. The steam boilers were also connected to the natural gas network, a move that is expected to lead to a significant reduction in pollutant emissions, along with substantial financial savings. The hospital is expected to consume approximately 9 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
