Jerusalem, 3 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli State Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against 21-year-old Ashraf Abu Kashek of the Arab town of Jaljuliya, accusing him of injuring three police officers when an explosive device detonated during a court-ordered search of his home.
Prosecutors say the officers, unaware of the danger, found what appeared to be improvised fireworks in a drawer and were misled by Abu Kashek, who called them “Purim fireworks.” Purim fireworks are small, semi-legal noisemakers popular with children during the Purim holiday. One officer attempted to open a device, triggering an explosion that left all three with serious injuries.
