Israeli President Opens Door to Possible Pardon for Netanyahu

Jerusalem, 29 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — For the first time, Israeli President Isaac Herzog suggested he would consider pardoning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is on trial for corruption.

“The Netanyahu case weighs heavily on Israeli society. If there is a request or any process, I will divulge this to the public with full transparency,” Herzog told Army Radio on Monday. “I will consider what’s best for the state and all other considerations.”

The Prime Minister faces charges of fraud, accepting bribes, and breach of trust stemming from three separate police investigations. Netanyahu denies all wrongdoing and has insisted in the past that the trial would not interfere with his public responsibilities. In an effort to expedite the trial, Netanyahu will be required to testify three times a week starting in November.
