Jerusalem, 1 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Police Commissioner, Chief Superintendent Danny Levy, visited the northern Druze town of Julis on Sunday, where he met with Sheikh Muafek Tarif at his home and wished him and all members of the Druze community a happy holiday on the occasion of the holiday Feast of the Sacrifice (Eid-ul-Adha in Arabic).
The Feast began Sunday night and this year corresponds with the Jewish holiday Shavuot.
During the visit, the Commissioner expressed his great appreciation for the work of the community members. Sheikh Tarif thanked the Commissioner for the cooperation and activity of the police since he took office in the fight against crime in Arab society and against crime families on behalf of the normative residents.
The Commissioner blessed all members of the Druze community with the blessing of “Every nation and every chosen one.”
In his remarks, the Commissioner referred to Sheikh Tarif and the members of the Druze community: “I have great respect for the Sheikh and the members of the community. On behalf of the Jewish people and on behalf of the Israel Police, I am here to say thank you. We have proven that when there is cooperation between the local leadership and the police, it proves itself.”
The Feast of the Sacrifice celebrates what Muslims and Druze believe is the anniversary of when Abraham was told by God to sacrifice his son. However, where the Bible says this was Isaac, according to the Muslim tradition it was Ishmael. While holding some of the same traditions as Islam, the Druze are their own religion as well as a nation of people.
