Jerusalem, 26 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Health Ministry confirmed three cases of cholera, marking the country’s first reported infections in years.
Cholera is a bacterial illness usually transmitted through contaminated water or food. It causes acute diarrhea and rapid dehydration, which can be fatal within hours if left untreated. It is typically treated with prompt rehydration and, in more severe cases, antibiotics.
Israel’s Kan broadcaster reported that two people became infected in Ethiopia after drinking contaminated water. They brought some contaminated water back to Israel which infected a third person.
