Jerusalem, 19 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar departs for Zambia on Tuesday to reopen the Israeli embassy in Lusaka. The embassy ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, marking the first Israeli mission in the country since the 1970s.

“The reopening of the embassy after decades is an important step in deepening bilateral relations with Zambia and also part of a broader move to strengthen and deepen relations with countries on the African continent,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Sa’ar will meet Zambian President Hakainda Hichilema, Foreign Minister Mulambo Himba, and Speaker of Parliament Nellie Moti, and present initiatives to strengthen bilateral ties. On his way, he will stop in Addis Ababa to meet Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Gideon Timothy for their fourth discussion since Saar took office.
