Jerusalem, 30 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s new national program for solar roofing on public sports fields throughout the country is underway. A call was issued to all local authorities across the country for financial support for the installation of solar roofing on their areas.

“This move is another pillar of the national policy to expand the use of renewable energy and deal with the climate crisis,” said the Ministry of Energy and infrastructure.

Grants, totaling tens of millions of shekels, will amount to 300,000 to 450,000 shekels per authority – according to its socio-economic cluster.

The move combines a number of different practical benefits under one roof: it allows for the expansion of hours of operation at sports fields, provides shade and protection from weather conditions, generates clean, zero-emission energy, contributes to reducing urban heat islands, strengthens local energy security, and allows local authorities to turn an expense into a profitable investment. All this through smart utilization of existing infrastructure that will transform the neighborhood sports field into an energy hub in the community.
