Jerusalem, 21 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s National Planning and Building Council approved the establishment, for the first time, a planning regulation for electricity production above agricultural fields. Israel is one of the first countries in the world to promote a planning regulation for agro-voltaic installations. The council also approved an addition of 1,200 acres to the quota for ground-based renewable energy installations.
“This is a breakthrough for the establishment of energy production facilities above agricultural fields and meeting the government’s goals for 2030,” said the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
The Agro Voltaic facility is a solar technology electricity production facility that integrates agricultural activity throughout the facility’s life. The success of the integration is contingent on meeting conditions that will allow agricultural crops to coexist alongside solar production and maintain the crop and its quality, added the Ministry.
The conditions for promoting plans for agro-voltaic fields that combine renewable energy production with active agriculture.
The agricultural, environmental, and planning conditions that the projects are required to meet.
