Israel Takes Part in International Initiative to Review Children’s Online Privacy
Jerusalem, 3 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Privacy Protection Authority is launching a review process on the issue of protecting children’s privacy on websites and applications, as part of an international initiative.
The Authority, as part of an international network of privacy enforcement authorities, will examine websites and applications on mobile devices frequently used by children, as part of the GPEN 2025 Wide Area Review (SWEEP) process, which is taking place this week.
Children’s privacy on websites and applications is an issue of paramount importance, as children are considered a vulnerable population that needs special protection from the collection and use of personal information. This year’s cross-sectional review theme sees the importance of the digital space as a central component in children’s lives, offering them opportunities for self-expression, learning, creating interpersonal relationships, and connecting to the community. At the same time, digital services may expose children to vulnerabilities, such as digital surveillance, creating and exploiting children’s online profiles, and exposure to inappropriate and even harmful content.
The current cross-sectional review will mark 10 years since the previous international review on children’s privacy from 2015, which will allow authorities to compare results.
The results of the horizontal review will be collected, analyzed jointly with the results of all authorities participating in the process, and will be published to the public in the coming months.
