Jerusalem, 14 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Minister of Transportation Miri Regev said her ministry is intensifying preparations for a potential major earthquake. She was speaking the day after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the Greek island of Crete was felt in Israel.

Regev emphasized the need for cross-organizational coordination, noting that earthquakes requiring readiness across the land, sea, and air transport sectors.

Director General Moshe Ben Zaken led a high-level meeting Wednesday with emergency agencies to assess readiness, citing past lessons from disasters abroad. Agencies presented evacuation plans and infrastructure reinforcements, including early warning systems and continuity drills. The Ministry vowed to ensure transportation remains operational and responsive in crisis scenarios.
