Jerusalem, 16 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — On the occasion of the Lag BaOmer holiday and the start of the wedding season, the State Archives is uploading to its website a large collection of marriage certificates from the 1920s to the late 1940s, as well as a convenient searchable catalog.

The collection of approximately 115,000 scanned pages from the years 1929-1949 offers a “fascinating glimpse into the life of the settlement and the beginning of the state and is an essential research tool for genealogists and historians,” said the Archives.

The collection also includes marriage certificates of figures such as Yitzhak Rabin and Yigal Yadin, and hints at complex historical circumstances. The materials, deposited by the rabbinical courts, the Ministry of Religious Services, and the governor of the Mandatory Lod District, are available for search on the State Archives website.

Among the pages of the collection can be found marriage certificates of well-known figures such as Prime Minister and former Chief of Staff Yitzhak Rabin, Chief of Staff and archaeologist Prof. Yigal Yadin, and Supreme Court Justice Shoshana Netanyahu; a variety of seals and symbols of bodies such as the “Ashkenazim Community Committee in Jerusalem”, which reflect the organizational and communal diversity of the Jewish settlement; socioeconomic information from details about origin, occupation and residence, and more.
