Jerusalem, 16 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli government is working to put a stop to the continued attempts made by the Iranian government to recruit Israelis as spies and for terrorist activities. To that end, there is a new campaign from Israel’s National Public Diplomacy Directorate, operated jointly with the Shin Bet (Israel’s anti-terror General Security Service) to raise awareness of this phenomenon, to deter, and to show the consequences of colluding with the Iranian enemy.
The campaign will run on the radio, websites and social media.
Over the past year, more than 25 such attempts by Iranian agents to recruit Israelis have been exposed, and more than 35 Israelis were indicted on severe charges.
The campaign, titled “Easy money, heavy price,” has two main objectives. The first is to raise awareness of the phenomenon and of the ease of entering in collusion with the Iranians, most often out of greed for money. The second is to articulate to the public the cost of failure, where a severe security offense under current law is concerned, carrying a heavy penalty of up to 15 years of imprisonment. The campaign is of high national importance particularly in the wake of Operation Rising Lion, following which the Iranian enemy is expected to further increase the efforts to recruit Israelis and carry out missions inside Israel.
The public will be made aware of the campaign, implemented by the Israeli Government Advertising Agency (Lapam), on the radio, leading websites and social media. As part of the campaign, citizens are requested to report to the police on any suspicious inquiry.
