Israel Invests ₪100 Million Annually to Lead Scientific Research

Jerusalem, 14 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Science and the National Science Foundation are establishing the “IsraLab” program to accelerate scientific research, with a budget of 100 million Shekels ($31 million) per year. The ministries said that this will place Israel at the forefront of scientific research and the technological industry.

The IsraLab program is intended to be a multidisciplinary research institute that will be home to outstanding and groundbreaking scientific research. The institute will create a unique ecosystem that combines representatives from academia, the defense establishment, and the high-tech industry, to produce research that supports the critical supply chains in which Israel leads. The IsraLab program will host outstanding research groups from all universities in Israel, who will receive particularly long-term research grants (approximately 7-10 years) and in unprecedented financial amounts.

The first studies to be funded will deal with the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and will create working groups that will operate on the supercomputing infrastructure promoted within the framework of the National Artificial Intelligence Program.

In addition, the project will consolidate and concentrate “heavy” national research infrastructures in one physical location, in strategic areas, that will be used by all academic institutions and the Israeli R&D industry. The institute will also work to advance the research to economic and commercial maturity through close collaborations with industry.
