Jerusalem, 30 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — IsraAID, Israel’s leading independent humanitarian organization, has launched an emergency response after Category 5 Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica. The team, including specialists from Dominica, Colombia, and IsraAID’s global operations unit, is expected to arrive over the weekend to provide urgent support in water, sanitation, hygiene, mental health, and child protection.

The hurricane made landfall Tuesday bringing heavy rainfall, sustained winds of 295 km/h,and three-meter storm surges. Five people have died in Jamaica, with 20 more reported dead in Haiti. Early reports show widespread flooding, damaged homes, and infrastructure.

Southwest Jamaica is still recovering from 2024’s Hurricane Beryl.
