High-Tech Cars Will Be Able to Use Automated Parking Without the Driver

Israeli drivers rejoice as new regulations allow high-tech cars to use automated parking systems even without the driver inside. Revolutionary change approved by the Knesset.

TPSBreaking News

Jerusalem, 21 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Knesset’s Economics Committee approved a “revolutionary” amendment to Israel’s traffic regulations, which for the first time allows the legal use of automatic parking systems in advanced vehicles – smart cars – even when the driver is outside the vehicle.

Remote Parking is an advanced system that allows a vehicle to park itself independently, in a controlled manner and at slow speed.

These systems are particularly helpful in parking in narrow, complex or crowded spaces, and are based on sensors, cameras and artificial intelligence. In a vehicle equipped with this technology, the parking operation can be controlled using an app or smart remote, even when the driver is outside the vehicle.

The new regulation sets strict limits to maintain the safety of the user and his environment. Automatic parking can only be activated under the following conditions: the system must be original to the vehicle manufacturer, and if activation is performed outside the vehicle, the driver must be within 6 meters of the vehicle, the maximum speed will be limited to 12 km/h, and there will be no additional passengers in the vehicle during activation.
