Jerusalem, 30 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced on Monday that Prof. Tamir Sheafer will serve as its next president, beginning October 2025. Currently the university’s rector and a former dean of social sciences, Sheafer will succeed Prof. Asher Cohen, who is completing two terms in office. Sheafer played a key role in supporting students and promoting coexistence during the war following the October 7 Hamas attack.
“I am committed to continuing the advancement of the Hebrew University as a global leader,” Sheafer said. Board chairman Dan Schlesinger praised Sheafer’s “creative vision and excellent managerial skills,” calling him a worthy successor.
