Jerusalem, 16 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli police arrested five suspects of Indian and Nepalese origin for questioning on suspicion of involvement in a network that operated to extort money through extortion and fraud from foreign workers who came from India.

The arrests came after an investigation revealed that many foreign workers who came from India in recent years to work in nursing were required to pay large sums of money to the suspects, every month, under the pretext of visa fees and related expenses. Workers who refused to pay were threatened with harm to their families remaining in India.

The suspicion, said the police, is that the arrested, themselves foreign workers, exploited the fear, lack of knowledge, and inexperience of the new foreign workers and fraudulently obtained large sums of money from them.
