Jerusalem, 8 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Before dawn Sunday morning, a fire broke out at the “Or Haviv” (wonderful light) synagogue in the Sanhedria neighborhood of northern Jerusalem. Arson is suspected; however, at this time there has been no official statement from authorities as to the cause of the fire.

Police forces were called to the scene, along with fire and rescue personnel who worked to extinguish the fire. As a result of the fire, damage was caused to the site. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

This is the synagogue of former Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef.

The rabbi’s personal chair in the synagogue was burned.

The police received a report of a cross painted on the door of a house next to the scene.

The Jerusalem District Criminal Investigation Department began collecting evidence and testimonies, and a police investigation was opened.
