Jerusalem, 8 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — A leading expert has called for an upcoming United Nations meeting to be cancelled, denouncing it as a ruse to promote the legitimization of a Hamas-supporting Palestinian State.

Speaking to TPS-IL, Director of Palestinian Media Watch Itamar Marcus said the meeting scheduled for June 17 should be halted: “It’s the first UN conference where the entire purpose is to promote Palestinian statehood.

“It’s title is to promote the two-state solution, and some Western countries announced that they will use this event to recognize a Palestinian state.”

He went on to stress that Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas continues to praise Hamas atrocities committed on October 7.

In a written piece, he stated: “Abbas and the PA’s continued embrace of Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas’ atrocities show that the PA remains a terror-supporting entity, diametrically opposed to the values of the very countries that plan to recognize a Palestinian state.

“Abbas reminded us once again that if the PA were to become a state, it would be a terror state…

“If Abbas refuses to condemn the Oct. 7 atrocities, there is no justification for the June 17 UN event, and it should be cancelled.”

Abbas has repeatedly called the October 7 invasion, rapes and murders as ‘legitimate resistance’ in various interviews.
