Euroleague Basketball games set to resume in Israel after Presidential appeal. President Herzog welcomes decision as symbol of peace and unity.
Jerusalem, 21 october, 2025 (TPS-IL) — President Isaac Herzog has welcomed the decision to resume Euroleague basketball games in Israel after a two-year hiatus. Earlier this week, Herzog formally requested Euroleague CEO Paulius Motoyunas to allow games to return, following disruptions caused by the war with Hamas and Hezbollah.
The President’s letter stressed the recent ceasefire agreement and the return of hostages as a new chapter for Israel, and that sports can serve as a unifying bridge between communities. Herzog called the resumption of games a symbol of peace, reconciliation, and international recognition of Israel’s renewed stability.
