Enzymit’s Cell-Free Breakthrough Could Redefine How Biomaterials Are Made

Enzymit revolutionizes biomaterial production with cell-free breakthrough, scaling hyaluronic acid production in Israel.

Breaking News

Jerusalem, 11 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli startup Enzymit has become the first company to produce hyaluronic acid (HA) at scale without using living cells, in partnership with Dutch cooperative Cosun. The enzyme-only process yielded multi-kilogram quantities of high-purity HA — used in cosmetics, wound care, and drug delivery — while allowing precise control over the molecule’s size.

Enzymit says the breakthrough proves that complex biomaterials can be made faster and cleaner than traditional fermentation, potentially cutting costs and environmental impact.

“This isn’t just a breakthrough in hyaluronic acid production — it’s a glimpse into the future of how we make molecules,” said CEO Gideon Lapidoth.
