Jerusalem, 27 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — This week, environmental protection Minister Idit Silman held a working meeting and tour of the Lower Galilee in the area of an illegal waste site in Tur’an, an Arab village, accompanied by the head of the Lower Galilee Regional Council, Nitzan Peleg, and his deputy, David Berger. the minister closely observed the severity of the environmental and health hazards from the site, which has become a major focus for waste burning.
Under the direction of the Minister and in coordination with the Director of the Northern District and the Director of the Green Police in the Ministry, an immediate reinforcement of personnel in the field will be carried out.
The focus is on increased enforcement against waste fires in open areas.
Main actions
Immediate manpower reinforcement – additional supervisors for the Northern District
Focusing on waste burning incidents – giving first priority to the Green Police activity in the ministry
Expanding enforcement to night hours – increased activity in collaboration with the Owl Unit in light of the difficulty in identifying litterers in the dark.
The illegal waste dumping site in Tur’an is located near the Golani quarry and is the responsibility of the local council by virtue of its municipal authority.
