Cyprus Arrests Three Following Incident at Maccabi Tel Aviv Match
Cyprus Police arrest three individuals for displaying Palestinian flag at Maccabi Tel Aviv match in Limassol. Incident during Pafos FC game.
Jerusalem, 23 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Cyprus Police arrested three individuals last night, for allegedly displaying the Palestinian flag on balloons which were released over the “Alfamega” stadium in Limassol. The incident occured during a football match between the Cypriot team Pafos FC and Maccabi Tel Aviv, which was taking place in the presence of the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The three individuals, who claim to be activists belonging to an Alt-Left group called “afoa.cy,” were soon identified and taken to the a Police station for questioning. They were formally charged with offenses related to the posting of political symbols in a sports venue and causing a public nuisance.
