Jerusalem, 19 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The drafting of the interstate agreement between Cyprus and Israel in regards to the “Aphrodite-Ishay” gas field management is in its final stage, Cypriot Energy Minister George Papanastasiou revealed today.
The minister explained that the draft agreement has essentially been finalized and that the final version incorporating the Cypriot comments was sent to Israel last week. Furthermore, he noted that he and his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen aim to sign the agreement by the end of the year.
Papanastasiou explained that the agreement will determine how the part of the Cypriot Aphrodite field that extends to the Ishai area will be managed. It will also address the quantities of natural gas that may be located within the Israeli EEZ. He noted that the process would essentially outline a mechanism for the Israeli side to compensate the owners for their share.
