Jerusalem, 4 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir congratulated the selection of Adv. Itai Ophir for the position of Chief Military Advocate. Adv. Ophir was the Chief of Staff’s leading candidate for the position.
Ophir succeeds Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, who resigned on Friday in the midst of a scandal over her having leaked a video of soldiers accused of assaulting a Palestinian security prisoner.
The IDF Spokesman said that the Chief of Staff “sees utmost importance in appointing a Chief Military Advocate who comes from the ranks of the IDF’s combatant officers, has extensive legal experience and is deeply familiar with the challenges of both combat and law.”
“The Chief of Staff will continue to work to quickly stabilize the Military Advocate’s Office in order to protect IDF soldiers,” the Spokesman added.
