Ministry of Health reports abnormal results in water samples from northern Israel streams, indicating contamination. Public warned of potential danger.

Ministry of HealthBreaking News

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection inform the public, hikers, and regional and local councils about abnormal results from water sampling conducted to assess pollution levels in streams in the north. Bacterial tests on samples collected on November 11, 2025, showed that several streams in the north exceeded the Ministry of Health’s recommended limit (400 fecal coliforms per 100 mL), indicating the presence of water contamination.

Results obtained:

  • Hatzbani–Rumi Bridge: 450; Hydroelectric Station: 440; Jordan River Outlet: 700.
  • Jordan River – Yosef Bridge: 1,200; Lehavot HaBashan Bridge: 2,000; HaHamisha Bridge: 1,100; Huri Bridge: 1,000; Mtsad Atarat: 800; Arik Bridge: 750; Yehudiya: 500; Zaki: 550.
  • Jilbon: 1,300.
  • Meshushim Pool: 1,100.
  • Tzalmon–Haruv Pools: 2,100.
  • Kziv–Ein Tamir Pool: 1,700; Dalavim Pool: 650; Ein Hardalit: 550.

Given these results, entering these streams may be dangerous until sampling results are stable and within safe limits:

  • Hatzbani—from Rumi Bridge to the Jordan River outlet.
  • Jordan River—from Yosef Bridge to the outlet to the Sea of Galilee.
  • Yehudiya.
  • Zaki.
  • Jilbon.
  • Meshushim Pool.
  • Tzalmon – Haruv Pool.
  • Kziv – Ein Tamir Pool, Dalavim Pool, and Ein Hardalit.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has not identified a known source of pollution in the streams.

Under normal circumstances, sampling is conducted every two weeks by inspectors from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority at fixed points in northern streams (Upper Galilee, Golan, and Western Galilee). Sampling points represent waterfalls, pools, or stream segments. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection continue to monitor and will provide updates as necessary.
