Jerusalem, 1 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Education said on Monday morning that 95% of students evacuated from 32 northern communities are beginning the new school year locally. In October 2023, 30,141 students were registered in the districts; today, 28,640 have returned.
Return rates vary, with 86% back in Kiryat Shmona and just 34% in Metula. The ministry reported that 97% of teachers have resumed work in the previously evacuated areas.
Thousands of residents were forced to flee northern Israel after Hezbollah launched rocket barrages following Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack.
