Jerusalem, 22 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics released the results of the 2024 Social Survey, in which respondents were asked to define themselves in terms of origin – a primary definition and an additional definition.

Among those aged 20 and over:

In the total population, 38% of those aged 20 and over define themselves in terms of origin as “Jewish,” 25% define themselves as ‘Israeli’, 11% define themselves as “Arab,” 4.9% define themselves as “Muslim.”

Additional definition: 33% define themselves as “Israeli” as an additional definition, 18% define themselves as “Jewish,” 4.6% define themselves as “Muslim.”

Self-definition of origin – Jews
(main definition)
49% of Jews define themselves in terms of origin as “Jewish,” 30% define themselves as “Israeli.”

Among those who define themselves in terms of origin as ‘Jewish’ in the primary definition:
56% define themselves as “Israeli” in an additional definition;
5.4% define themselves as “Mizrahi,” “Sephardi” (Sephardic) or “Eastern Jewish”;
7.2% define themselves as “Jewish” in the additional definition as well.

Self-definition of origin – Arabs

56% of Arabs define themselves in terms of origin as “Arab,” 25% define themselves as “Muslim.”

Among Muslims: 62% define themselves as “Arab,” 29% define themselves as “Muslim.”

Among Arab Christians: 43% define themselves as “Arab.”

Among the Druze: 98% define themselves as “Druze.”
