Jerusalem, 22 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The 2025 beach season officially ended yesterday, Tuesday, October 21, 2025. During the season, the number of drowning deaths totaled 31 people, (compared to 34 drowning cases in the 2024 bathing season).
During the season, 160 declared swimming beaches operated throughout the country.
During the winter season, 67 beaches with active rescue services will remain open to the public.
A summary prepared by the Bathing Beaches Division of the Ministry of the Interior, based on data received from the authorities, shows that during the season, most drownings occurred on beaches that were not declared, on beaches that were prohibited from bathing, or during hours when there were no lifeguard services. It also shows that 25 drownings occurred in the Mediterranean Sea, 4 on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, and 2 in the Dead Sea.
Most drownings involved men – 27 (87%), compared to women (12%). The age range of those who drowned this season is high: 19 people over the age of 46, 10 people between the ages 18 – 46, and 2 drownings involved children under the age of 18.
