Government approved: Ministry of Construction and Housing will conduct examination for establishment of new settlement with Haredi character in Kiryat Gat area “Plugot”
Israel's Ministry of Construction and Housing will explore establishing a new Haredi settlement in the Kiryat Gat area, "Plugot," to address housing needs.
The decision is made in line with the government’s policy to increase the housing supply in Israel, including for the Haredi public, and in accordance with previous government decisions on planning and marketing of real estate for the Haredi population and for the strategic goals for the coming years.
As part of the decision, the Ministry of Construction and Housing will lead a professional staff work in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Interior, and the Planning Administration, which will examine within 100 days all the aspects required for the establishment of the settlement; infrastructure, economy, demography, employment, commerce, environment, and public services. The examinations will be conducted in accordance with the instructions of the Attorney General. After the conclusions are formulated, the products will be brought for discussion in the National Council for Planning and Construction and subsequently to the government for a final decision.
The decision is part of a broad policy to increase the housing supply and address the growing demand for housing with a Haredi character, as according to the strategic housing plan 2050, tens of thousands of housing units are required for the Haredi public in the coming years.
Minister of Construction and Housing, Yitzhak Goldknopf:
“The State of Israel must prepare today for the housing needs of the coming decades. The Haredi public is growing at a rapid pace, and the State is committed to providing planned, responsible, and infrastructure-based solutions. Today’s decision is a strategic step that ensures long-term planning, full professional examination, and a real response to demands.”
Director General of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, Yehuda Morgenstern:
“We are embarking on professional, thorough, and rapid staff work that will examine all planning, economic, and social aspects, and the impacts on the region. The clear goal is to create housing solutions for all citizens of Israel, with appropriate infrastructure and an overall regional vision. The Ministry of Construction and Housing will lead the process in cooperation with all relevant parties to bring a professional decision to the government.”
