President Herzog congratulated President-elect Asfura on his election victory and thanked him for his commitment to deepening relations between Israel and Honduras. During their meeting, they discussed how to strengthen trade and cooperation between Israel and Honduras in a range of fields, including agriculture, technology, and tourism.
President Herzog and President-elect Asfura also held an unofficial meeting with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) at the President’s Residence, following President Herzog’s meeting with Senator Graham earlier today.

President Herzog: “We welcome you, dear friend, and we wish you great success as the next President of Honduras. Honduras has a special meaning in our hearts. It was one of the first nations in the world to recognize Israel and to have an embassy in Jerusalem historically in those days. Israelis have a huge affinity and affection for Honduras, and they want to advance the relationship and develop it to new heights. That is why this visit means so much to us—before your swearing in, you’re coming to the Holy Land, to the holy city, both to be blessed and to talk to us about how to advance relations. So, thank you, and shalom, and welcome.”
